Now you can learn a lot of things from the internet, from
different websites like Wikipedia, Coursera, YouTube, Udacity,
Udemy etc., but you may not be interested in spending a lot of
time with some beginner stuff. I know that the last sentence
may sound a bit rude about people who are just starting to
learn something, but it was not my intention to do that. In
reality, we are all beginners at a certain period of time. In
this post I will be talking about watching videos faster on
YouTube, or to be more specific: speeding your process of
learning on YouTube, by watching some videos faster. (You can
use this method on other videos too, but I prefer to use it
mostly on videos about learning.)
It is necessary to have a freeware software called VLC, that
will help us toward this. So, if you have not installed it
yet,
go here and install it. After you have installed it, copy the URL of
a video from YouTube, for example I am copying the
URL of video lectures of Stanford University
about programming. Now go and open VLC and then go to
Media>Open Network Stream or you can just hit
Ctrl+N in your keyboard. After you have done that, a new
window will pop up and there is a field where it is written:
Please enter a network URL: where you have to paste
the URL of the video that you just copied and then click the
Play button.
Then, you should click with the right mouse button over the video and go to Playback>Speed and then choose the Faster option, or, if you want, you can select to slow down the video. After you have clicked Faster, it will be faster for 1.1 times the original, and if you want to speed it even more, you can repeat the same process again, by right clicking with your mouse anywhere in the VLC window, Playback>Speed and then Faster. After this, you will have the video going for 1.2 less of the time of the original video. You can continue with this process over and over again.
You can also change the speed by simply using the shortcuts from your keyboard. So, if you want to make your video run faster, simply press ], slow it with [ or you can change the speed back to normal with = this key on your keyboard. (Click here if you want to see more keyboard shortcuts for VLC Media Player.) And that’s it. I hope you enjoy it.
