YouTube has a really helpful built-in feature that lets you do auto-translation of captions, even the auto-generated ones from one to language to many other languages. However, recently, I noticed a weird situation that I wanted to write about.
I had a private video with German captions that I wanted to translate to English. I had already turned the captions on and tried to see the translation in English, but the YouTube player was only displaying the captions in German and wasn’t changing the option that indicates that the captions were already turned on. As if I didn’t turn the captions on, although I did.
As such, I couldn’t then choose the option to do the automatic translation into English.
Then, I am not entirely sure how I got the idea of just changing the video from Private to Unlisted and that weird behavior went away. I then was able to do the automatic translation again into English.
Yeah, that’s strange, but luckily, I still get to enjoy this very helpful feature of YouTube. I hope it helps you too.
