Last week I wrote an article about a very important question that we should ponder and reflect a lot about, which has to do with finding the reasons and the factors that drive us to be more productive and more engaged in things that we do. If you are not able to find any answer to that question, as it might sound a bit vague and strange to identify something in particular that is motivating you, then you might ask yourself another similar question that can unlock hidden sources of inspiration in you.
What wakes you up early? What keeps you up late?
As you can see, here we have two questions, but they are analogous to one another, because not everybody stays awake late at night, or wakes up early in the dawn time.
You might be a morning person, or a night person, where you prefer to work in the evening, or in the morning, and which ever period of time you prefer to work, chances are that there is something that might not be very clear to you, that is causing you to wake up early in the morning or stay late at night. Finding the reason and the answer to one of the above questions that best fits you might give you a very important insight about driving factors inside you. Is it because you want to become important in your community by working hard in your job, or studying hard for your University? Do you stay late at night watching movies, because they have interesting adventures that distract your mind from your current problems that you might be facing? Are you motivated to get early and run because you think it is important for you to be healthy?
After identifying the reasons, you might be able to get a long-term cure for your procrastination. When you are not feeling motivated to act, you can simply remind yourself about some of these reasons and adapt them properly to your certain case. Maybe you are not motivated to go to work, and you like watching movies at night. Maybe you might feel more motivated to work by taking more responsibility in your work and do more than you are asked to do. You might not be inspired to study, but you might see yourself as a future leader and leaders should be prepared before taking that title, because there might not be time to prepare and learn sufficiently as needed.
There are children who might hate going to school and might love to stay home and play video games the whole day, and the reason might be because they are not challenged or compelled to go to school. They might get bored easily from uninteresting material that is taught and the approaches that their teachers use to teach them. Finding the answers to these issues and then acting based on a concrete plan might be necessary to address these concerns.
