I really do not like keeping my email open all the time. It can be disturbing and as a way of procrastination and avoiding to work on the things that really matter. However, there can be cases when we may be very interested in getting an answer for a particular email, but do not want to constantly open our email tab every minute.
Luckily, there is a really simple Chrome extension that notifies you for new emails that you get on Gmail, without having you to manually going countless times in the email tab, or even keeping such tab open at all.
Gmail™ Notifier is an open-source project that notifies you about incoming emails from all your Google Mail accounts and labels.
Some of its core features are like the following:
1. No requirement to enter your credentials.
2. Multiple account support
3. Multiple label support
4. Low bandwidth usage by using RSS technology
5. Mark as read, report spam, trash or archive messages right from browser’s toolbar
It gives you the option to also mute notifications for a few hours, or indefinitely.
It is an open-source project, which you can find on Github.
Of course, it does not mean that you have to always have it as an active addon on your browser. Use it only when you really need to get notified for something immediately. In all other cases, either deactivate it or mute its notifications indefinitely.
