WikiWand is a Chrome extension which organizes Wikipedia’s content in a new user interface that is intended to make it easier for reading and quick navigation. I have been using it for a few weeks now and I really like it.
WikiWand adds a table of contents to the side of the screen as a way to quickly navigate to different parts of the article. This alone is something that seems very beneficial, at least to my own needs. I find it really helpful to have a quick glimpse about the actual paragraphs that the article that I am trying to read has, so that I can then choose which paragraph should I go to.
Once you install it, you can then have a new Wikipedia user layout with many features. Every link to other Wikipedia articles, including the one in which you are currently in, will be replaced with the Wikiwand ones.
According to its description on its Chrome page, WikiWand includes the following:
- New clean layout for optimal readability
- Great modern typography
- Convenient fixed table-of-contents
- Quick preview when hovering over links
- Multi-language search with thumbnails
- Beautiful, immersive cover photos
- Larger photos and better media gallery
- Easy article narration and audio playback
- Color, font and layout personalization
- Dozens of other improvements
You do not need to install this plugin if you want to read a Wikipedia article in the actual Wikipedia layout. All you need to do is click the “WikiWand” logo, and then “Read on Wikipedia”.
If this resonates with you, then you can give this plugin a try.
