We sometimes fall into the trap of thinking about ourselves that we are going to get better, we are going to change, we are going to not be late at our meetings, and these types of wishful attributes that we want to have. Still, day in and day out there is not a single thing done from our side that would bring us closer to those objectives.
How we spend our lives determines our future selves. If we are working out and eating healthy food, then we most definitely would be healthy and fit. If we were to get late at each of our appointments, then we most likely would accept that as a self-fulfilling prophecy and would stick to it. How you do something is how you do everything.
You have to change your attitude and your actions. Here are three easy to follow steps that should help you improve your overall life.
- Set a clear objective
Be crystal clear about the outcome that you are after. Write down on a piece of paper very vividly what you want your future self to be like. Be very specific and set aside a portion of your time, as this might take a while and might be the most important step.
- Set an actionable plan
After you know how you want your future self to be like, you can now set an actionable plan with steps that are easy to follow. Planning also includes setting a time in your calendar. Actually, if you have not set a schedule, it is highly likely that you will not be able to follow the process needed to achieve the objective that you are after.
- Regularly remind yourself about that specific objective
After you have set a clear objective and also a plan, try to change your environment in that way that it reminds you about your objective. You can set a certain image in your phone, or set a daily reminder with a phrase that reminds you about the goal that you are after. This way, as time goes by, you are likely to feel less fatigued and more inspired to have a clarity and orientation when things do not follow through.
For things to change, you have to change. Your future self is a summation of all the things that you have been doing until this point in your life. If you want to be a better self, you have to improve the quality of the work that you do and the quality of your day to day life.
