We as human beings do not always feel the same feelings, but a mix of a lot of types of them. There are a few feelings which we want to feel more often, yet we are able to feel them very rarely. We might try to represent ourselves as rational beings who are always thinking before acting and then acting, but the truth is that we are mostly determined and driven by our own emotions and not thoughts. Our emotions control the reactions that we perform, the mood and the state in which we are in, and also the quality of the work that we do, whether we are scary, happy, anxious or excited.
These emotions are often as results of some certain triggers which are not the same for everyone: what makes you feel happy might make somebody else sad, or what scares somebody (like skydiving) might make somebody else feel excited. Our emotions are created not by the outside events that occur, but from the blueprints that we have about them and from our own perceptions of reality. You might get excited skydiving, because your perception tells that when you do something that is scary for most of the people, your curiosity and levels of adrenaline make you more alert and excited. You are happy when you achieve what you have being aiming at, because it makes you feel valuable, and capable of accomplishing your goals.
Examples of triggers might be practicing your favorite hobby, staying with people who have accomplished more than you have, or volunteering for a local group of students who are trying to help the poor in your city.
Consequently, it is very important for you to identify the triggers of your positive feelings, which can include all the emotions that you like to feel that can lead you to a well being lifestyle – what turns you on – and try to replicate them. Replicating them would not only increase your effectiveness, but it will also impact the others around you, because emotions are contagious. When you feel inspired to do something, you are more likely to do a better job, which can influence other people’s standard and set higher bars for themselves too, as they are seeing what is possible to happen.
After you have identified and replicated the triggers, it is important to repeat this process of triggering your positive emotions on a consistent basis, until they become dominant emotions in your daily life. Later on, you might not need to constantly trigger these emotions, because they can become more present to you from the clues that the triggers have engrained up to that point of time. However, you should also try to be careful and not think that you might never need them in the future. You should try to replicate these triggers in the future when you think you need that.
