We hear these two words a lot of times, sometimes they are used in place of the other one. Because currently in this blog I am writing mostly about self-improvement, I will try to illustrate a minor, but very important difference that exist between them. First, I will explain their definitions and those definitions will be used below.
I am not referencing any prestigious dictionary to give their formal definition and as a result, it might not be proper for you to reference this article in your academic essays. However, I plan to give you some insights about these two words that might be helpful to both you and me. Information represents the ideas, news, tips, tricks and other similar types of data that you might currently possess or not. Knowledge represents those data, idea or advice that you are actually implementing in your own life. In other words, information represents things that you already know about, and knowledge represents the information that you are implementing in your life.
Here is the analogy that I would like to share with you that might further enrich this subtle, yet delicate difference between these very commonly used words.
You are living in a beautiful house and there you are sitting in a very comforting sofa, and you are staring the food in the table that is in front of you. You are really close to the food, and you are very hungry but you are not even giving a try to just taste the food. It is not that you do not like that kind of food and it is not because it does not belong to you; it is in fact your food that you have invested a lot of time and effort to prepare and eat it. Still, you are not eating it, though you are already starving.
On another scenario, let’s suppose that you are in a modest house and you are tired from the work that you did the whole day and now you are sitting next to the table and eating the food. It is not that you have a large meal or a more delicious one, so you are content with it.
If you are a personal-development-blogs enthusiast, you might already have an idea about the following recommendations that you might get from this analogy, because of the definitions and examples given above.
The first example represents people who are constantly eager to read a lot of articles per day and books and attend a lot of seminars and are very impressed about the new information that they get, but they are not implementing it. Though they worked hard to learn the lessons and resolved to practice the new concepts, habits and practices that they were advised to implement, they are not making a real commitment.
The second example represents people that although read a few pages per week or so, they are eager to practice those information. They are constantly making attempts to put a lot of effort from their side, only because they have come to a life-changing realization: Successful people are those who learn and act fast. They want to live by that kind of principle, and despite looking a bit hard in the first sight, they are ready to face a few obstacles and enjoy the greater rewards in the long-term.
